Keeping up with alarm replacement is one of those home-safety jobs that is easy to put off until the chirping starts. Live Wire Electric helps you sort out aging hardwired smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms, choose compatible replacements and understand the system already in your home.

Our licensed electricians serve homeowners across King and Snohomish counties. For a planned replacement, we help take the confusion out of model numbers, backup batteries and interconnected alarms so you can get the work handled with a clear plan.

An active alarm needs emergency action first

If an alarm is warning of smoke or carbon monoxide, respond to the danger rather than disconnecting it or waiting for a service appointment. Leave for a safe location or fresh air and contact emergency services. If you cannot tell whether the signal is a routine chirp or a danger warning, treat it as a potential emergency.

For routine maintenance symptoms, tell us the signal you noticed and the model if you already know it. Different alarms use different patterns, so the correct instructions matter. We can help plan replacement after the immediate safety question is resolved.

A fresh battery is not always the whole job

SMCO100V-AC uses replaceable backup batteries, but the alarm itself has a separate service life. First Alert directs replacement of the alarm at least every ten years, with testing and replacement guidance in the model instructions. Repeated battery changes do not renew an aging alarm.

If several devices were installed together, we can review their ages and condition as part of the plan. You do not have to wait for each one to become confusing in turn. We explain which replacements are supported by the findings and what can be considered together.

We check the exact First Alert model before choosing the replacement

SMCO100V-AC is the hardwired combination smoke and carbon-monoxide model with voice alerts. The AC suffix matters. SMCO100 and SMICO100-AC are different references, not shortened versions of this same alarm.

First Alert identifies SMCO100V-AC as a replacement for SC7010BV, which is helpful if you are updating an older installation. We still check the existing mounting, connections and connected alarms. A similar name or plug appearance is not enough to establish that unrelated devices will work together.

Keep interconnected alarms working as a supported system

When compatible alarms are interconnected, their intended signaling depends on the right combination of equipment. We identify the devices involved and check the manufacturer’s compatibility information. Mixing brands or communication methods without that review can leave important questions unanswered.

Live Wire explains whether your project is a single-device replacement or whether age, compatibility or coverage needs support a broader scope. We also clarify whether you are asking for ordinary household alarm work or a separate monitored fire-alarm system service. That keeps the proposal focused on your home’s actual installation.

Get the replacement project moving with Live Wire

Share the number of alarms, installation dates or model records you already have and any ceiling-access considerations. Leave hardwired connections alone. If previous replacements introduced different models, tell us so we can review that history.

Our crew explains the devices, any accessories or electrical corrections, checks after the work and price before approval. Contact our Lynnwood-based team to arrange your planned alarm replacement and take a practical step toward a safer home.

Common questions

Can I book a repair while a carbon-monoxide alarm is sounding?

Treat an active CO warning as an emergency. Get to fresh air and contact emergency services first. Routine electrical appointments are for maintenance and replacement after immediate danger is addressed.

Does SMCO100V-AC replace SC7010BV?

First Alert identifies that replacement path. We still check your existing connection, mounting and interconnected devices before recommending the installation.

Will replacing the battery make an old alarm new again?

No. Backup batteries and the alarm itself have different service lives. We can help you review the device ages and manufacturer replacement instructions.

Do all interconnected alarms need to be the same?

They need to be a manufacturer-supported combination. We check every model involved and explain any changes needed to preserve compatible signaling.
