More time for the loads that matter · Live Wire Electric

Powerwall 3 Expansion: more stored energy for your home

If your existing Powerwall 3 handles the loads you need but you would like more stored energy behind them, an Expansion unit may be worth exploring. Live Wire Electric helps you review that possibility with your household's outage priorities in mind.

We offer an assessment before an installation commitment. We need to confirm your Powerwall hardware, the supported layout, equipment supply, warranty conditions and manufacturer commissioning access. Our role is to make those choices and the electrical implications clear before you decide on the next step.

Our starting point
Your existing system and the loads you want to support longer

We begin with what you want more time for

Perhaps you want longer support for refrigeration, selected lighting or a comfortable part of the house. We review those priorities and any records of how your existing system has performed. Your app history and installation documents can help us understand the energy you use and the outcome you want to improve.

We also discuss the reserve you prefer and how you use the home during an outage. A focused load plan can use stored energy differently from a plan that keeps more large appliances available. We explain the tradeoffs in household terms rather than promise a standard number of extra hours.

Separate more stored energy from more output

An Expansion unit does not have its own inverter. Adding storage can extend operation at a given load, but it does not by itself increase the system's ability to supply a larger simultaneous demand. We help you identify which of those problems you are actually trying to solve.

If the existing system struggles with a particular load, more storage may not address that limitation. If output is sufficient and duration is the concern, Expansion may be a focused option to assess. That distinction helps you avoid spending on equipment that does not match your goal.

Plan around a range of outage conditions

Snohomish County PUD explains that fallen trees and brush can delay access to repair sites, and restoration estimates may be unavailable early in major storms. We therefore discuss backup scenarios rather than tie battery expectations to a single predicted outage length.

A winter evening and a day with useful solar production can leave different energy available to the home. We review the loads, reserve settings and generation assumptions behind each scenario. Home backup can supply supported household equipment; it cannot guarantee that an outside internet or other service provider remains available.

We check the Powerwall and the space it uses

We identify the actual Powerwall 3 hardware revision, associated Gateway or Backup Switch and existing solar arrangement. Tesla's supported compatibility requirements guide the review; a similar-looking enclosure is not enough to establish that an Expansion unit can be added.

The physical design matters too. We review the supported mounting arrangement, required space, access and the approved Expansion Harness route. If the installation needs a different layout or broader changes, we explain that finding before equipment is ordered.

Get a clear answer on the path forward

An addition may affect system documentation and require jurisdiction or utility review. We establish those requirements for your King or Snohomish County address and confirm the source of equipment and the supported commissioning and warranty responsibilities before offering installation.

Contact Live Wire with your system details, installation records and the improvement you want to make. We can help you compare an Expansion assessment with a broader system change when more output or different backup coverage is the real goal. You get a decision grounded in your existing equipment and the way you use your home.

Talk With Our Crew

Common questions

Will an Expansion unit let me run a bigger load?

Not by itself. Expansion adds stored energy without another inverter. We check whether your goal is longer operation or greater output, then explain which type of system change would address it.

Can it be added to any Powerwall?

No. We verify the exact Powerwall model, hardware revision and supported layout. Powerwall 3 Expansion should not be treated as a universal addition to older or differently configured systems.

How much longer could my home run?

That depends on the added usable energy, your selected loads, reserve settings and any generation available. We review realistic scenarios for your home rather than promise a fixed runtime.

Can Live Wire commit to installing it after a phone call?

Our current offer is an assessment. Hardware compatibility, layout, supply, local requirements and manufacturer commissioning and warranty responsibilities need confirmation before an installation commitment.
