Our recommendation
Tesla Universal Wall Connector is our preferred starting point for everyday home charging. Its integrated NACS/J1772 solution makes mixed-EV households simpler, while the Tesla app and power-management options leave room for a thoughtfully connected home.

| Brand / featured system | Product highlights | A strong fit for | What to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tesla Universal Wall Connector Live Wire pick |
| Everyday home charging, especially a household with both NACS and J1772 vehicles. | Charging speed depends on the vehicle and circuit. Home backup is a separate system, not a standard Wall Connector feature. |
| ChargePoint Home Flex |
| Drivers who value the ChargePoint app for both home and public charging. | Choose the connector and installation type carefully. The maximum 50A setting requires a suitable hardwired installation; plug-in configurations have lower limits. |
| Emporia Emporia Pro EV Charger |
| A charging project where home-energy visibility and supported dynamic load management are priorities. | PowerSmart relies on the correct monitor, configuration and connectivity. Buying a charger alone does not establish a complete load-managed installation. |
| GM Energy V2H GM Energy V2H Bundle |
| An owner of an eligible GM EV who wants to explore using the vehicle for home backup. | Requires an eligible vehicle, PowerShift charger, V2H enablement hardware and commissioning. Maximum charging power is not the home-backup output. |
How we chose: Our charging pick emphasizes connector convenience, everyday use and a clean installed solution. Home Flex and Emporia offer meaningful alternatives. Powerwall and GM V2H solve backup-power needs and are not ranked as ordinary wall chargers.

The right plan comes first.
Share your make, model, year, charge-port type and typical daily driving. The vehicle’s AC charging limit matters just as much as the number on the charger.
Where you park, the panel’s location, wall construction and outdoor exposure shape the installation. A convenient cable path is part of a good daily charging experience.
We review the electrical load before choosing the charger setting. A correctly designed load-management option may be worth comparing with a service upgrade.
A few good questions.
Have a project-specific question?
Talk it through with the crew.
No. Actual charging is limited by the vehicle, charger setting, supply voltage and installed circuit. The highest nameplate amperage is not automatically the right choice for your home.
No. Ordinary Level 2 charging supplies energy to the vehicle. Vehicle-to-home backup requires a supported vehicle, bidirectional hardware, transfer or isolation equipment and commissioning.
Not necessarily. Tesla describes Powerwall as able to store solar or grid energy. We review your existing equipment, goals and utility requirements before proposing an installation.
