Get the right charging setup from the start · Live Wire Electric
GM PowerShift installation for your charging needs today
If you are considering GM Energy PowerShift, you may want its higher charging capability, a future home-backup option or both. Live Wire Electric helps you understand those goals before you choose the electrical work for your home.
Our licensed electricians plan the charging installation around your vehicle, daily routine and available capacity. We also explain the additional requirements for GM vehicle-to-home backup, so you know what the charger alone provides and what would need a separate, confirmed project.

- Charging capability
- Up to 19.2 kW / 80A, when the vehicle and installation support it
- Future backup path
- Eligible GM vehicle plus a supported V2H Enablement Kit system
- Our first question
- What will the extra charging capability do for your routine?
We help you choose for the way you drive
A larger charging capability is most useful when your vehicle can accept it and your routine benefits from it. We ask about daily driving, time parked at home and occasions when a quicker turnaround matters. Then we check the exact vehicle's onboard charging capability.
If a more modest charging installation meets your needs, we explain that option too. We can compare PowerShift with PowerUp 2 for everyday charging while keeping any future backup goal visible. You should understand the household benefit before committing to a higher electrical allocation.
Plan the service and charging location together
PowerShift's published maximum is 19.2 kW at 80 amps, but the final rate depends on both the vehicle and the installation. We review the electrical service, panel condition and other major loads to determine the appropriate design. An empty breaker space alone does not establish available capacity.
We also look at your normal parking position, cable reach and the route from the electrical equipment. A longer route, difficult access or service changes can affect the scope. We explain those details alongside mounting and outdoor exposure where relevant, so the charger fits the space you actually use.
Keep everyday charging and home backup clear
PowerShift can be part of GM's supported vehicle-to-home system with the required V2H Enablement Kit and an eligible vehicle. Installing the charger by itself provides charging; it does not complete a home-backup system. We make that distinction explicit in the proposal.
If backup is a future goal, we discuss it during planning rather than assume it can be added without further work. Vehicle eligibility, home equipment, utility requirements and manufacturer commissioning access need their own confirmation. We can help you assess those next steps without presenting an unconfirmed backup capability as part of the charging installation.
Understand the different power numbers
The maximum charging figure describes energy going into a compatible vehicle through the supported installation. It is not the output available to your house during an outage. Backup output depends on the complete supported vehicle and home-side equipment arrangement.
We explain those figures separately when discussing a possible combined project. That helps you compare the charging convenience you want with the household loads you would like backed up. Keeping the two goals clear also makes it easier to consider stationary PowerBank storage if having energy at home while the car is away matters to you.
We define the work and setup responsibilities
Your charging scope identifies equipment supply, wiring, mounting, circuit and service work, plus the supported setup. We confirm manufacturer-specific responsibilities before proceeding and do not assume GM-preferred installer status or access to every commissioning function.
Contact Live Wire with your King or Snohomish County address, vehicle details and safe photos of the closed panel and parking area. Include solar, batteries, a generator and future electrical plans. We will explain the practical installation choices, cost drivers and any separate assessment needed for your broader GM Energy goals.
Build your GM Energy plan around the job you want done
| Equipment | How it can fit your home |
|---|---|
| PowerUp 2 | Everyday unidirectional charging for a supported vehicle |

Request ServiceCommon questions
Will my vehicle charge at 19.2 kW?
Only if the vehicle and the installed electrical configuration support that rate. We check your exact vehicle and design the circuit accordingly, then explain the useful charging rate for your routine.
Does PowerShift alone provide home backup?
No. A supported V2H system also needs the required Enablement Kit, an eligible vehicle and a confirmed electrical and commissioning path. We keep that additional work separate from the charger installation.
Is the charging rating also the backup rating?
No. Charging and home-backup output are different figures. We explain the limits of the complete supported backup system separately so the larger charging number does not set the wrong expectation.
How should I choose PowerShift or PowerUp 2?
We compare your vehicle, parking time, electrical capacity and future goals. PowerUp 2 serves ordinary charging; PowerShift is the charger used in the supported GM V2H path with additional equipment and eligibility requirements.
