A practical look at vehicle-powered backup · Live Wire Electric
GM V2H Enablement Kit: explore backup power from your vehicle
If you already use a GM PowerShift Charger, you may be wondering whether the same vehicle could help keep your refrigerator, selected lights and other priority loads working during an outage. Live Wire Electric helps you explore that next step with a GM V2H Enablement Kit assessment.
We review your home and explain what the complete system would require. Our offer is assessment-only until vehicle and software eligibility, equipment supply, utility requirements and the necessary manufacturer training and commissioning access are confirmed.

We plan around home comfort and the next drive
The vehicle battery has two possible jobs: transportation and supplying a supported home-backup system. We ask which household loads matter most and how much charge you want to preserve for driving. Your commute, travel plans and the hours the vehicle is home help determine whether the idea fits your routine.
We can discuss a focused plan for food storage and lighting or a broader set of loads, with their starting needs included. The vehicle must be present and connected for its stored energy to serve the home. We make that practical limitation part of the conversation from the start.
Check the vehicle and PowerShift installation first
We identify the exact charger, review its installation records and inspect the relevant electrical arrangement. A PowerShift that charges normally does not by itself show that the home is ready for bidirectional operation. The additional equipment needs a supported connection to the service and the intended backup loads.
We also check the vehicle model, year and current software eligibility through the manufacturer process. A GM badge or a large battery does not establish V2H support. Verifying those details early helps you avoid purchasing home equipment before the system path is clear.
We explain what the Enablement Kit adds
GM identifies the Home Hub, Inverter and Dark Start Battery as kit components. Together with the supported charger and eligible vehicle, these provide the home-side functions required for the system. This is an electrical integration project rather than a connector adapter added to ordinary charging.
We explain the role of the equipment and its placement in your home without burying the decision in terminology. The Dark Start Battery supports the system's startup function; it is not a substitute for a larger stationary home battery. If storage that stays home is the priority, we can discuss a separate PowerBank assessment.
Keep regional restoration and household backup in perspective
Snohomish County PUD explains that restoration addresses major transmission problems and hazards before progressing through neighborhood and smaller outages. A home-backup plan can support selected household needs while utility repairs proceed; it does not change the repair order or restore the wider grid.
We review your electrical service, existing solar or backup equipment and the requirements at your King or Snohomish County address. The supported design must isolate the home appropriately and account for equipment interactions. Home backup also does not automatically authorize export to the utility grid.
Know what must be confirmed before installation
We identify the electrical changes, equipment sourcing, manufacturer configuration and support responsibilities that a complete project would need. Any required training, commissioning tools or partner role must be established before we offer a V2H installation. We do not promise activation based on the charger model alone.
Contact Live Wire with your vehicle details, PowerShift information, available drawings and safe exterior photos of electrical equipment. Bring your backup priorities and normal driving routine. We will help you understand feasibility, the remaining checks and the options for a home-energy plan that makes sense for you.

Talk With Our CrewCommon questions
Can the kit work with my GM PowerUp 2 charger?
No. PowerUp 2 is not compatible with the V2H Enablement Kit. We assess the supported PowerShift arrangement and eligible vehicle rather than treating the kit as an addition to any GM home charger.
Will any GM EV work?
We need to confirm the exact vehicle and current software eligibility. The complete system must follow GM's supported configuration. Vehicle brand or battery size alone is not enough.
Does the Dark Start Battery provide ordinary home backup?
It has a specific startup-support role in the system. It should not be confused with stationary storage sized to supply your household loads. We explain that distinction when discussing the kit and PowerBank options.
Can Live Wire promise a commissioned system now?
We currently offer feasibility and electrical assessment. Supply, eligibility, utility requirements and manufacturer training and commissioning access must be confirmed before we make an installation commitment.
