Our recommendation
SPAN is our preferred starting point when whole-panel visibility and circuit control are the main goal. It brings energy information and control into one coordinated panel platform, making it especially compelling when planning electrification or compatible battery backup.

| Brand / featured system | Product highlights | A strong fit for | What to consider |
|---|---|---|---|
| SPAN SPAN Panel Live Wire pick |
| An integrated smart-panel project centered on circuit visibility and control. | Choose the panel format and compatible backup design together. The panel does not generate energy or replace a battery. |
| Square D / Schneider Electric Square D Energy Center |
| Existing Square D / Schneider equipment, model-specific service and a considered upgrade plan. | Pulse is listed as discontinued; featured Energy Center and WISEREMZ references also have discontinuation notices. Verify exact model support and availability before choosing a new installation. |
| Leviton Leviton Smart Load Center |
| A modular smart-breaker approach, including phased upgrades in a compatible Leviton load center. | Functions depend on breaker generation and the monitor. Remote on/off and scheduling require supported second-generation smart breakers. |
How we chose: Our pick prioritizes integrated circuit visibility and control. Leviton’s modular smart-breaker approach can suit a phased project. Schneider’s panel and monitoring products need to be compared by exact model and lifecycle, rather than treated as one interchangeable system.

Products & local serviceThe right plan comes first.
The meter, service conductors, grounding, existing circuits and utility connection all affect a main-service project. A new enclosure alone does not increase available utility capacity.
An energy monitor measures usage. Controlling circuits requires compatible control hardware. Decide which loads you want to see, schedule or prioritize before choosing a platform.
Share plans for an EV, heat pump, induction cooking, solar or battery backup. We can compare a focused repair, a conventional upgrade and a smart-panel installation.
A few good questions.
Have a project-specific question?
Talk it through with the crew.
No. A panel manages or distributes power; it does not store or generate it. Outage operation requires a separately designed generator or battery system with compatible equipment.
No. Monitoring can show energy use without replacing the panel. Remote circuit control needs additional compatible hardware and may not be available on every existing circuit.
Often the first step is identifying it. Send the exterior label and model information, without removing covers. We assess compatibility and explain what can stay and what the project needs.
