SPAN MLO subpanel installation · Live Wire Electric

SPAN MLO installation for smart control where you need it

A garage upgrade, addition or renovation can create a need for more useful electrical distribution without replacing every part of your existing service. Live Wire Electric helps you explore SPAN MLO when you want supported circuit monitoring and control in a new or reorganized part of your home.

We look at the loads you want to serve, where the panel belongs and how it will connect to the rest of the house. Our licensed electricians help you compare a smart subpanel with other sensible options, with the work explained in everyday terms.

Make the new space work for you

Tell us how you expect to use the space. A garage with EV charging, a workshop and an addition with heating equipment can need very different circuit arrangements. We review the equipment you have now and the additions you expect, so the panel plan follows the way you will use the home.

We also help you decide what needs individual control. Moving selected circuits can make a more organized installation, but other circuits may be best left where they are. We explain that division clearly so you know what the new panel will serve.

Understand what an MLO panel adds

MLO means main lug only. This panel receives power through suitable upstream protection rather than providing the same main-breaker arrangement as SPAN MAIN. We check the existing disconnect, feeder and equipment ratings together and explain the changes needed to supply the proposed loads.

MLO 24 and MLO 48 belong in the same selection conversation. We compare the circuit schedule, physical fit and future plans. Extra panel positions can improve your layout, while the capacity available to power those circuits remains a separate electrical question.

Connect smart features to practical priorities

You may want to see energy use, control selected circuits or organize loads within a compatible backup system. We help define the benefit you want before choosing equipment. Sometimes a conventional subpanel with separate monitoring or charging management is another useful option to compare.

If backup is part of the project, we identify which circuits will actually receive backup power and review the source, transfer equipment and supported configuration. We also check the exact SPAN models: MAIN 32 multi-panel combinations differ from the newer MAIN 16/40 and MLO 24/48 family.

Plan the route before the finishes go in

We review the path between your existing electrical equipment and the new panel. Distance, finished walls, separate buildings and access can affect the work. In a garage, we coordinate the panel position with parking and storage; during a remodel, we help settle the location before cabinetry or wall finishes make changes harder.

The estimate identifies feeder work, circuit transfers, protective devices and any corrections to existing equipment. For a detached garage, we discuss the route between buildings and the locations exposed to wet weather as part of the actual installation. We also cover permit requirements, interruption planning and finish repairs. Connectivity and commissioning are included in the planning when app functions are part of your goal.

Leave with a layout you can understand

We want the finished circuit directory and homeowner records to make sense together. We plan how existing labels will be updated, which controls will be available and how the agreed setup will be handed over. For staged work, we explain what is ready now and what depends on a later phase.

Contact Live Wire with your city, photos of the closed electrical equipment and a brief description of the space. We serve King and Snohomish counties and can help you decide whether an MLO project is the right next step. Existing remodel drawings or backup-system records are welcome, but you do not need to open any equipment.

Common questions

Could a smart subpanel help with my garage project?

It may be useful when you want to organize and manage selected circuits. We assess the garage loads, existing supply and route, then compare SPAN MLO with a conventional subpanel or another appropriate solution.

Does MLO replace the main disconnect?

MLO needs a suitable upstream disconnect and protection. We review the whole arrangement and explain where the new panel fits, including any changes needed to the existing supply equipment.

Can I add MLO 48 beside an existing MAIN 32?

We check the exact combination before recommending equipment. SPAN documents different multi-panel support for MAIN 32 and the newer MLO family. Knowing your installed model helps us find a supported way forward.

Will every circuit moved to MLO work during an outage?

That depends on the complete backup design. We identify the circuits supplied by the backup source, its capacity and the compatible equipment so you know what the finished system is designed to support.
