Build on the charger you already have · Live Wire Electric

Add managed charging to a compatible Emporia Classic

If your Emporia Classic already works well for your parking space, you may not need a completely new charger to explore managed charging. Live Wire Electric helps you assess and install a supported PowerSmart retrofit with the required Vue equipment and setup.

Our licensed electricians review what is already installed, what needs to be added and how charging should fit your household demand. We explain the options before you spend on parts or activation, with compatibility and the current manufacturer process confirmed for your project.

Charging that responds to measured household demand

We look for a useful upgrade to your existing setup

Tell us why you want to change the charging arrangement. You may be planning another appliance, finding a fixed charging rate inconvenient or trying to understand the available capacity at home. We review those needs alongside your driving and the hours the car stays parked.

That conversation helps us compare a retrofit with keeping the present setup or making broader electrical changes. We do not assume that more features will improve every household. We explain what PowerSmart can add and what it would require from the equipment you already own.

Check the charger and monitor together

We identify the Classic model, existing circuit and any Vue monitoring. A monitor installed only to show energy use may need its sensing arrangement reviewed before it becomes part of managed charging. We check that the supported setup measures the electrical loads relevant to the design.

Emporia describes a paid Classic upgrade with compatible monitoring and activation through its current support process. We confirm the exact hardware, software and activation requirements before installation. A generic sensor purchase or an app showing household usage is not enough to establish the complete retrofit path.

Understand what PowerSmart changes in daily use

A charging schedule chooses when a session runs. PowerSmart manages the supported charging load in relation to measured household demand. Emporia's Peak Demand Management is a different feature with a different purpose, so we identify the actual function included in your scope.

We explain how the charging rate may respond when other appliances are active and how that fits your available parking time. The useful outcome is a car that receives the energy you need within a realistic routine, while the system respects the limits established by the electrical design.

We set up the limits and keep devices aligned

The service rating and supported fallback charging rate come from the electrical review. We establish those values and verify the intended behavior instead of treating them as homeowner speed adjustments. If communication or measurements become unavailable, the supported fallback needs to remain appropriate for the installation.

The app's device relationships also matter. We confirm the account grouping required by Emporia and explain why moving devices to another home in the app, replacing equipment or changing the electrical system can call for a configuration review. Physical wiring and software setup need to describe the same home.

Make the retrofit scope easy to follow

Our proposal identifies compatible hardware, sensor work, activation responsibilities, electrical corrections where needed and the supported setup. We compare those items with the alternatives if a full Pro package or another electrical project would be more sensible. You can see what you are keeping and what the upgrade actually adds.

For your King or Snohomish County home, send Live Wire the charger and monitor details, vehicle information and safe photos of closed equipment. Include solar, batteries, a generator or future appliance plans. We will explain the findings, installation choices and handoff so the retrofit is understandable from the first visit onward.

Common questions

Can PowerSmart be added to every Classic charger?

We confirm the exact charger, current software, supported Vue hardware and activation path. The availability of a retrofit depends on those requirements, so we verify them before offering the completed installation.

Is the Vue monitor I already own enough?

Possibly, but we need to check the generation, sensing arrangement and configuration. A monitor installed for visibility may need changes before it can support the intended managed-charging design.

Is this just a charging schedule?

No. A schedule chooses a time; PowerSmart addresses the charging load in relation to measured household demand. We explain the feature and settings being installed so they match the problem you want to solve.

Can I increase the fallback rate if charging seems slow?

That rate is part of the electrical design. Contact us for a review instead of increasing it as a speed preference. We can check the behavior, your needs and whether a supported design change is appropriate.
